Known for their white flowers called spathes, peace lilies have great air-purifying qualities, as well as looking great.

While they are fairly low maintenance, certain mistakes can cause the flowers to drop, including not choosing the right environment.

Maryam Ghani, brand manager at Haute Florist, said: “Peace lilies thrive in bright, indirect light, making them perfect for spaces with filtered sunlight.

“Avoid placing them in direct sunlight, as this can scorch their delicate leaves. They also do well in shaded areas, making them versatile for various indoor settings.”

It is also important to make sure they are watered properly, as they could suffer from root rot if given too much water.

She noted: “Peace lilies prefer moist soil, but be cautious not to water too much. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering again.”

When watering, ensure that excess water can drain away, preventing the roots from sitting in the water.

Allowing the roots to sit in water will lead to root rot, a deadly disease which will kill the houseplant.

Britons should try to mimic the natural environment of a peace lily, which involves boosting humidity.

To do this, place a tray of water near the plant or mist its leaves regularly to create its ideal environment.

For “long-lasting blooms”, it is recommended to feed peace lilies properly during the growing season.

Maryam said: “During the growing season, from spring to early autumn, feed your peace lily with a balanced liquid fertiliser every six to eight weeks.

“This will provide the necessary nutrients to support healthy foliage and vibrant blooms.”

Maintaining the aesthetic of peace lilies involves pruning regularly which can also help to stimulate new growth.

Remove any yellow or brown leaves as soon as possible, making sure to deadhead and remove any spent flowers.

This will help to redirect the plant’s energy towards producing more blooms.
