Limited edition EV based on classic Ford Mustang set to hit the market

Classic car fans can secure a historic Ford Mustang with a twist in a limited edition production run.

The ‘67 by Charge Cars fuses the classic chassis of a historic Mustang and an electric motor to create a truly one-of-a-kind product surely at the top of petrolheads' wish lists this summer.

The model is built to modern standards with cutting-edge technology onboard a new chassis while retaining the classic 60’s vintage.

The end product is something that could revolutionise historic motoring and keep the essence of historic vehicles on the roads for years to come.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, a spokesperson for Charge Cars, said: “There's quite a few companies out there doing conversions and things like that and that's great.

“That's one way of recycling or repurposing or being able to bring an older car up to the modern era with electrification.

“The difference with our car is that everything is new from the ground up. We are not a resto-mod, we haven’t harmed the classic car in the process.

“We have taken the essence of the 67, we are very fortunate to have the licence approval of Ford to make our own body’s in-house. You have got the style of a car of that era but everything is brand new. Everything is designed for that purpose.

“Our chassis is designed to incorporate our battery packs from scratch rather than having to cut them. All the structure has been designed, tested, the car will be crash tested, it complies to a lot higher regulations.”

A 63kWh battery capacity allows the ‘67 to run for a sizeable 200 miles on a single charge. The model also opaque a punch with 400kw of peak power ensuring the model can reach 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.

Inside, a range of safety etch not found on the original Mustang is fitted such as a lane departure warning system and traffic sign recognition tools.

Keyless entry, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking is also fitted in all models. Two high-definition screens running a top-end infotainment system are fitted alongside an immersive audio system.

Charge Cars added: “You’ve got the customers who want to be able to drive around in a car that's got shape, has forn, looks sexy, has that classic look taking it back to their childhood or their teens but with modern technology.

“You've got sat nav, you’ve got the reliability, you’ve got the performance if you want it. You've got creature comforts. Someone later on doesn't want to sit in a cold car.”

The ‘67 is set to retain its limited edition status with only 499 models set to be hand-builty at their London factory.

Each model will cost an eye-watering £350,000 but owners will get access to a range of customisable options with each model set to be truly bespoke.

They added: “We’ve got a colours and material custom room. You can come in and choose your colours. We've got like a set colour palette, there is already some samples of the colours we can produce.

“But we’ve got an amazing paint factory next door, you can bring in a swatch, we can colour match that and then produce a paint so if you have a favourite colour T-shirt or carpet we can match that and your car can be painted in that colour.”
