Cleaning your shower screen or door can feel like a never-ending cycle, and not long after you've given it a good scrub the scum can start to build back up again. According to a team of cleaning experts, you can help to banish even the most "stubborn" shower scum without reaching for chemical-based products.

Many homeowners are looking to move away from using too many chemicals in their homes, both for health and environmental reasons.

And it turns out that some of the best cleaning solutions are noes which are completely natural and have been passed down from generation to generation.

In fact, the cleaning experts from Bella Bathrooms explained that baking soda is one of their top recommended ingredients for cleaning showers, shower doors and shower screens.

"Baking soda is easily one of the best ingredients you can use to clean any type of shower doors," they said. "By combining it with a liquid, such as vinegar or even just water, you can create a shower spray that will remove even the most stubborn soap scum."

Baking soda, also known as bicarbonate of soda, is a kitchen cupboard staple for many people who like to bake. In baking, the soda acts as a chemical leavening agent to help things like cookies or cakes rise.

However, in cleaning the mild alkali can help to dissolve dirt and grease. When made into a paste the small crystals that make up baking soda can also help to scrub away sticky build-ups.

To clean your shower door or screen, combine baking soda and water together. While you can do this to create a paste, it will be harder to clean off.

Bella Bathrooms team recommended mixing a tiny amount of baking soda with water and adding it to a spray bottle.

"Once the water and baking soda mixture is fully combined, you can simply spray it around your shower enclosure to clean glass shower doors with ease," they explained.

"Leave it on for around 15-20 minutes, then wipe your shower’s glass door with a towel or a sponge to remove any of the water or bicarb mixtures that are left. Few mixtures are as powerful at getting rid of soap scum and water spots as a bicarbonate and water mixture."
