Meghan Markle fans in stitches after spotting name of dress she picked for Nigeria debut | Royal | News

Meghan Markle fans were in stitches after spotting the name of the stunning backless peach frock the Duchess chose for her first outing since arriving in Nigeria on Friday.

The royal picked a maxi dress by California-based designer Heidi Merrick which appeared to pay tribute to Prince Harry's family as fans noticed the style is aptly named "Windsor."

Meghan paired the backless dress with a gold chain necklace and longer wooden beads matching the ones Harry was gifted with upon their arrival.

The stunning frock is part of Merrick's 2018 collection, suggesting the Duchess purchased it shortly before or after she married the Duke in May of that year.

Meghan's choice surprised some of her fans, who couldn't help but notice the irony of the non-working royal rocking a frock bearing the official name of the Royal Family.

One user wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "But they have been trying to erase the Windsors from their lives completely, but here comes Mrs. Sussex wearing a dress called ‘Windsor’, haha!!"

Another user added: "I'm convinced she is doing this on purpose at this point. Infamy is her goal – not approval. She is taking a page out of Wallis’s handbook."

One fan asked: "Did she really choose a dress called the Windsor Dress, or are you being cheeky for fun?" To which the original poster replied: "I am dead serious.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will spend their three-day visit to Nigeria hosting a series of talks and meetings with local charities and organisations.

The pair kicked off their tour de force with a summit discussing mental health with the local nonprofit GEANCO Foundation at the Lightway Academy in Abuja.

The Duchess gushed about her husband after he delivered a speech highlighting the importance of mental health as he urged students and staff to "look after yourselves."

As he finished, Meghan told the crowd: "You see why I’m married to him? It’s so inspiring because he speaks the truth.”

She then took to the stage herself as she reiterated pupils should not feel ashamed should they experience issues with their mental health.

Meghan said: "Every single one of you has a story. We all have our story. And there’s no shame in any single one of your stories.

"Even on the hardest days or darkest days, everything is a pillar of your strength by each of you being there,” she said. “Your teachers see that in you. And we see that in you.”

She also shared a touching anecdote about a recent interaction with her young daughter, Princess Lilibet Diana.

The royal added: "A few weeks ago, she looked at me and saw her reflection in my eyes. She said: ‘Mama, I see me in you.’ Now, she was talking literally, but I held onto those words in a different way. I thought, yes, I do see me in you, and you see me in you. But as I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well.”
